Analysis of wastewater
IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute performs water analyzes on many components in incoming and outgoing wastewater, sludge and recipient water.
We specialize in analyzing low levels of various micro-pollutants to be able to follow trends in the environment. These can be medicines, PFASs, phenolic substances, plastic additives and pesticides. We study the efficiency of purification techniques, discharges and spread of water pollutants, spread from sludge, impact on and uptake in biota such as fish and mussels and in sediments. To see the total toxic effect or possible endocrine disrupting effect in a sample, various effect tests are performed, including a YES test for estrogenic effect.
Micro debris and microplastics
Sewage treatment plants are important for limiting the spread of microplastics to the environment. In addition to plastic, it can be textile fibers, rubber particles, asphalt or particles from combustion. The particles are rarely visible to the naked eye but can be harmful to wildlife because they can both contain and carry heavy metals and other harmful substances to aquatic animals. We use optical methods to quantify and classify existing micro-debris.
Custom-made analyzes
The analyzes are carried out in our advanced laboratories, but also in the pilot plant at Hammarby Sjöstadsverk in Stockholm. The analyzes are tailored to your needs. Many of our measurement and analysis methods are accredited by Swedac External link, opens in new window. according to SS-EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2018. For other methods, we work based on corresponding quality routines.
