Electronics with EPDs in China

With support from IVL, Pinggao Electric has published Type III ecolabel, Environmental Product Declaration, for eight products. Using EPDs allows manufacturers to measure the environmental impact of their products in a transparent way.

Henan Pinggao Electric manufactures and markets eletrical equipment such as high pressure plates, high voltage equipment, circuit breakers, switches, insulated switchgears, and other products. Now eight of its products have registered and piblished EPDs. IVL conducted a life cycle assessment of the products' environmental impact and created the EPD documents, which were validated by an independent third party.

Environmental Product Declarations provide information on the carbon footprint of products and other relevant environmental information, giving a clear picture of the environmental performance of different products on the market. It can also aid customers in their choice to be able to compare the same type of data for a market segment.

With its expertise in life cycle assessment and experience of the process, IVL can support organizations that want to publish EPDs. The whole process usually takes over a year from start to finish, with the end product a document showing the environmental impact from cradle to grave.
